First Mark - Fred Orchard

This painting was done by the well respected South Texas artist, Fred Orchard.  It is acrylic on canvas.

The painting is in excellent overall condition with the exception of the long vertical tear on the right side of the canvas.
This restoration was a technical challenge due to the fact that the damaged area was totally blue and glossy making it extremely difficult to "hide" the restoration and match the solid color.  It should be noted that the chemical makeup of acrylic paint has changed a great deal since this painting was created.  Great care was used in selecting the proper paint for this restoration.

The first two images show the condition of the painting when it arrived at the studio.   The canvas is thin and there is a high gloss on the surface of the painting.  At some time in the past the canvas was creased as can be seen in the second image.

The following image is the entire back side of the canvas.  The tear is in the upper left.  Information about the painting was provided by the artist.

And finally, the restored painting.  Extreme close up viewing will reveal a very slight distortion to the canvas but at normal viewing distance the damage is not noticeable.  However other minor defects in the canvas can be seen.  Nothing noted has a serious negative effect on this wonderful painting.
