The first picture shows the painting before restoration.
In the second picture the painting has been cleaned and primer applied in the first picture.
At this time is became apparent there was deeply embedded dirt and smoke on the painting.
Several different solvents were needed to complete the cleaning.
The second and third pictures are after the final cleaning.  In order to strengthen the edges of the canvas,
which are dry and deteriorated, organza material will be added for re-enforcement.

The frame was very dirty and discoloured.  The inner gold trim had several old nail holes and dark stain marks.
The wood was cleaned and the given a deep coat of wax.  Gold leaf was applied to the inner trim.  The difference was significant.
